An Army wife for 9 years , raising four grown sons and a daughter, a homemaker and hard worker, fit and healthy until February this year when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and so , came the biggest challenge of her life. This was stage 1. I call this, The Private Stage. The stage where her and her family came to terms with the news and the journey ahead, the fear, the anxiety, the dark days and the good days. The days when she doesn't want people seeing her suffer , the days when she gathers those around her who give her strength. The days when she doesn't know if she will survive the gruelling rounds of chemo. Then comes stage 2. I call this, the Stripped Bare Stage, she knows she can fight this disease, she's been through hell and back. The doctors are great and her hair is growing back. There is hope, even after the news of having to lose a breast , a piece of you, a breast that has nurtured all her children, it has to go. Whatever it takes, she wants to live. .. she can still smile , because she knows .. this is me .. I am real .. this is my journey . I am woman.
